Haruo Niyama

Freelancer. Niyama studied under Tamae and Mihori Tsukada at Shiratori Ballet Academy. In 2014, he placed first at the 42nd Lausanna International Ballet Competition and 1st place in the YAGP NY Final Senior Men's Division. He has also studied abroad at the San Francisco Ballet School Trainee Program on a scholarship from the Lausanne International Ballet Competition. 

In 2016, Niyama joined the Washington Ballet Studio Company.  From 2017-2020, he worked as a contract member of the Paris Opera Ballet and participated in the Abu Dhabi, Singapore, and Shanghai tours. In 2019, Niyama placed 1st in the Paris Opera Ballet External Audition. 

He performed at the 2014 80th anniversary of the Yomiuri Giants. Commendation from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and a visit to the Prime Minister's Office. He also received the Matsumoto City Culture and Arts Award from the local Matsumoto City, received the Shinmai Award from the Shinano Mainichi Shimbun, participated in the American Embassy Banquet, and danced at the Saito Kinen Festival under the direction of Seiji Ozawa.

In 2016, Niyama had a guest appearance in NBA Ballet's "Stars and Stripes." In 2018-2019, he had a guest appearance in Kiev Ballet's Japan performance. In 2022, Niyama appeared in NBA Ballet's "La Fille Mal Garde." Further, he was in the "Nutcracker: Magical Christmas Ballet" American Tour. 

In 2023, Niyama appeared in all acts as the clown for the Japan Association Kanto Branch Kanagawa Block 37th independent performance of "Cinderella." That same year, he also won the 29th Einosuke Nakagawa Award.
